Title of the thesis: Optical modelling of ocular parameters in eyes of varying refractive errors
The World Health Organization predicts that by 2050, 50% of the global population will be affected by myopia. Fabian Dębowy (ESR 5) extended his research beyond just myopia to include refractive errors such as myopia and hyperopia. He developed various simulations to model a wide range of ocular biometries, aiming to better understand the factors that influence the eye’s refractive power.
Through these simulations, he explored key eye parameters, including corneal radius of curvature, axial length, crystalline lens power, and crystalline lens thickness. The optical power mismatch between these elements is the primary cause of refractive errors.
These simulations led to the development of a predictive tool for refractive error progression, which could assist ophthalmologists in the future by helping quantify the maximum possible refractive error a patient might experience.
